Super Eagles at training on Tuesday.
SUPER Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr on Tuesday said he was happy with the enthusiasm of his players towards Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo.
Speaking after the day’s training session, Rohr said the team was right on schedule ahead of the explosive encounter.
“My players showed good signs of strength and character today. It was a good test and they are in good spirit.
“Today (Tuesday) is our first training; yesterday [Monday] we had training with one or two players, who didn’t play during the weekend.
“We have the time to execute our plan for the game between tomorrow [Wednesday] and Thursday.
The Franco-German, however, noted that win was not negotiable in spite of Algeria’s predigree
“We know we have to play against the number one team in Africa; they drew their first game, so it’s very important for us to collect all three points from this game.”
He explained that the players were trying to recover having played for their various clubs at the weekend.
“We had a light training this morning because some of the players just played two days ago and had to connect with night flights and barely arrived some hours ago.
Rohr also informed that three of his players were not fully fit.
“We also have three light injury cases, they are not so serious, but we have to be careful with everybody.”
He said Leon Balogun Brown Ideye and Shehu Abdullahi carried light injuries but hoped they would be alright by today to join training.
Meanwhile, with the arrival of Portugal-based duo of Oghenekaro Etebo and Dele Alampasu in Abuja, the number of players in camp has risen to 22.
Only Belgium-based defender Elderson Echiejile is now being expected.
