Eagles need big lift —Rohr

SUPER Eagles  chief coach, Gernot Rohr, has said the team has a long way to go to get good results against South Africa and Cameroon in a double header Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

Rohr expressed this notion in view of the fact that most of the Super Eagles players are no longer starters in their respective teams abroad.

‘We need a little more focus to stand out,’ Rohr told Le Foot.

‘It is not as if we are worried about these games against South Africa and Cameroon but we need to tune up the conditioning of our players who are not getting enough playing time with their clubs. When you are on top of a World Cup qualifier group, you have to look over your shoulders”.

Hugo Broos in charge of Cameroon, meanwhile said the game against Nigeria takes precedence over the forthcoming FIFA Confederations Cup.

“I think we need to set out the priorities very clear enough. I don’t think we have to lose sight of a World Cup qualifier against a big team like the Nigeria’s Eagles.

‘As continental champions, we have to show we are good enough for the FIFA tournament, but there we can experiment with the new blood of seven players we have just called up”
