Nigeria battled back to beat Argentina on Tuesday, but was it enough to demonstrate that they're ready for Russia?
The Nigerian government has declared that at least seven billion Naira was saved to qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year because it did not need a presidential task force to do so.
Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja.
He said: The Nigeria Football Federation and the Super Eagles saved this country seven billion Naira.
“They even did it in style by qualifying for the World Cup with a game to spare. As a country we say well down to the Eagles and the NFF because there was no need for a presidential task force which would have cost this country Nigeria seven billion Naira.
“One of the interesting in our World Cup campaign is that we went into the campaign without the jumbo- size presidential task force which has been gulping a minimum budget of seven billion Naira.
“Records are there for you to go and see. Meaning that getting this world Cup ticket has saved this country not less than seven billion Naira.”
The minister also highlighted that the successes recorded so far by the Super Eagles is a collective effort of every Nigerian including the media.
