Eagles will get bonus for Tanzania win —NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will still pay the Super Eagles bonus for their 1-0 victory over the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier last weekend in Uyo, officials have disclosed.

The Saturday’s match was a dead rubber as the group’s sole ticket to Gabon 2017 had already been won by the Pharaohs of Egypt.

However, NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire said on a radio programme on Wednesday morning that the Eagles will be paid the match bonus possibly before next month’s World Cup qualifier in Zambia.

“They will be paid the bonus later, possibly before the World Cup qualifier in Zambia,” Olajire announced.

Nigeria travels to Zambia on October 3 to begin its qualifying campaign for Russia 2018.

The players were left fuming after a cash gift of N10 million by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel was used to offset their camp allowances.

Cash-strapped NFF has insisted this N10 million was part of the money donated by the governor to help them organise the AFCON qualifier in Uyo.

It will be recalled that Manchester City starlet, Kelechi Iheanacho’s 78th minute wonder goal dimmed the Taifa Stars at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium otherwise known as the ‘Nest of Champions’ last weekend.
