General Manager, Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Gboyega Makinde, has expressed delight at the feat achieved by Team Oyo at the 20th National Sports Festival, Edo 2020 which ended on Wednesday night in Benin-City.
Oyo State as of the time of this report had 31 gold, 30 silver and 42 bronze medals to occupy sixth on the medals table.
Makinde while speaking with Sporting Tribune at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, on Wednesday said his athletes surpassed his target of 25 gold medal and now he is very delighted at the feat.
“My target before coming here for the festival was that we should win at least 25 gold medals so we can improve on the last edition’s performance and now we have garnered 29 gold medals which is a great feat in the history of Oyo State as far as the National Sports Festival is concerned. I’m indeed delighted at this feat and we shall continue to improve on this,” he said.

Makinde attributed the team’s success to God and to the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for his support for the athletes.
“I want to use opportunity to dedicate this success to God and to our sports-loving governor for his support for the athletes, he really inspired the athletes a lot.
“I equally commend the athletes and officials for their dedication and determination which helped us to achieve this feat,” he said.
