Ekiti: Gov Oyebanji champions Ikogosi 17.5km road race

The historic town of Ikogosi, famed for its mystical warm springs, is set to host the 2nd Ikogosi 17.5km Road Race on November 8, 2025, marking another bold step in Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s mission to make Ekiti the tourism hub of Nigeria.

Since assuming office, Governor Oyebanji has embarked on a series of massive road and power infrastructure projects, repositioned Ekiti United and the Ekiti Queens, upgraded key road networks and sporting facilities, and created an investor-friendly environment. His administration’s vision is clear: to transform Ekiti into a destination where tourism and sports drive economic growth.

By endorsing the Ikogosi Road Race-organized in partnership with the Ikogosi Marathon Initiative, the governor reaffirms his commitment to positioning Ekiti as a global tourism destination.

This landmark event is set to draw athletes, tourists, and investors from around the world, stimulating local commerce, hospitality, and small businesses.

More than 500 youths will receive training as volunteers, while artisans, SMEs, and cultural troupes seize the spotlight to showcase the rich vibrancy and creativity of Ekiti State.

The race route, from Ilawe’s scenic terrains to the world-famous Ikogosi Warm Spring- will highlight both the state’s natural beauty and its improved infrastructure.

More than a sporting spectacle, the race is a strategic platform to project Ekiti’s readiness for global tourism, adventure sports, and investment opportunities.

Under Governor Oyebanji’s leadership, Ekiti is not just hosting a race; it is running ahead in redefining itself as a first-class hub for sports, commerce, culture, and tourism in Nigeria.
