El-Kanemi Warriors hold Shooting Stars to 2-2 draw in Maiduguri

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan were denied the maximum points on the road as El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri rallied to earn a 2-2 draw.

The matchday 31 encounter played at the El-Kanemi Stadium, saw the visitors shoot to a two-goal lead in the first half but were pegged back in the second half

Shooting Stars’ gaffer, Gbenga Ogunbote, made a couple of changes in his starting line up with Aniyikaye Adeleye starting in the heart of the defense, Adebayo Abayomi, holding forth as the defensive midfielder, while Adams Mustapha started in front.

The Oluyole Warriors opened scoring in the 33rd minute, when Monday Gideon lashed onto a pass from Ukeme Williams to slot home the ball.

Sodiq Ibrahim added the second in extra time of the first half, scoring after being put through by Daddy Abdulrahman, to ensure the stars took a comfortable two-goal lead into the break.

The homers came out fully in the second half, and were lucky to reduce the tally in the 50th minute, after Barnabas fired in a free kick awarded to them close to 3SC’s vital area.

The Ibadan soccer lords responded and pushed for another goal, but could not find a way through, instead, it was the homers who got the face-saving leveller in the 79th minute through Alabi Suleiman.

The Oluyole Warriors were resolute enough to avoid another goal, with goalkeeper Abiodun Akande rising to the occasion with some fantastic saves, thus making sure that the Oluyole Warriors returned home with a point.

Shooting Stars remain fourth on the log with 47 points from 31 matches and will next play host to Ikorodu City in a matchday 32 fixture on Sunday, April 6.
