EX-INTERNATIONAL Peter Rufai, has stated that the decision of the former Super Eagles captain to return to the team will greatly help the Nigerian team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals.
Rufai, who played in two FIFA World Cup finals for Nigeria at the USA ’94 and France ’98, said he was filled with joy when the new Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr, confirmed that Enyeama has agreed to stage a return to the Eagles if the team book a ticket to play in the World Cup.
He said: “For the World Cup finals, it is important all national teams present their best players from across the globe. It won’t be good for Nigeria to go to the World Cup with some uncertainties about the goalkeeping area of the team. This is the most vital part of the team, and as such it must be well taken care of. If you have fantastic players and express some uncertainties about your goalkeepers, there is no way the players upfront would play well.
“For Gernot Rohr to make such move to bring back Vincent Enyeama to the fold after his premature retirement it’s a very good development. It is a misnomer for Nigeria to have the best goalkeeper in Africa and one of the best in the world and such is not playing in the national team. I commend the Super Eagles coach [Rohr] for this excellent move.”
