EPL suspended until April 4 due to coronavirus fears

The English Football League has been suspended until April 4 due to coronavirus fears. It’s understood a review will be held in April, which could see the suspension stretched even further.

The decision comes hours after the Premier League was heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Bournemouth became latest Premier League side to be affected by coronavirus, with the club confirming Artur Boruc and four other members of staff are in self-isolation.

Bournemouth’s statement on Friday morning came hours after Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea ace Callum Hudson-Odoi contracted coronavirus.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea’s first-team squad are in quarantine to prevent the spread of the disease.

Everton and Leicester players are also in self-isolation after showing symptoms of coronavirus.

It remains to be seen how the suspension will affect the Championship, League One and League Two.

Leeds’ promotion bid could be affected due to fears over coronavirus.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are currently top of the Championship, one point ahead of West Brom.

However, if the season is cancelled, a decision would need to be made on promotion to the Premier League – as well as who would be relegated from the top flight.

UEFA have also confirmed Champions League and Europa League matches next week have been cancelled.
