Everton have reached an agreement to sign Chelsea’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in a deal worth up to £28 million, as the Merseyside club steps up its summer business.
The fee for the 26-year-old midfielder includes an initial £24 million, with an additional £3–4 million in performance-related add-ons. Dewsbury-Hall is now expected to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms at Goodison Park, despite late interest from Fulham.
After a year at Stamford Bridge in which he played a supporting role under Enzo Maresca, Dewsbury-Hall was initially reluctant to move. However, with Chelsea open to a sale, the midfielder has opted to join Everton for a chance at regular first-team football.
Chelsea’s decision to sell is seen as part of the club’s ongoing squad overhaul and financial rebalancing. Dewsbury-Hall joined the London side just a year ago for around £30 million from Leicester City, reuniting with Maresca after their promotion-winning campaign in the Championship.
Everton, keen to strengthen under manager David Moyes, have also been in discussions with Southampton for young winger Tyler Dibling. However, the club is reportedly prepared to walk away if the Saints do not lower their valuation after rejecting a second bid.
Speaking at the Premier League Summer Series, Moyes hinted that transfer activity was nearing a breakthrough. “I think there’ll be deals next week. We’re getting much closer,” he said. “But I felt that four or five weeks ago as well. We’re getting near the tickly bits and we’ve got to get some things done.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea are continuing their squad clear-out following the signing of Dutch defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax on Sunday. Several exits are already in motion this week.
Lesley Ugochukwu, 21, has agreed to join Burnley, while the Clarets are also advancing talks with Chelsea over 23-year-old striker Armando Broja. In Germany, Borussia Dortmund have re-opened negotiations for young midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.
Chelsea’s busy summer reflects a push to meet financial fair play requirements while making room for further incoming transfers as the 2025/26 season approaches.
