Everton told they will have to pay £50m for Sigurdsson

Swansea are demanding a huge sum to let Sigurdsson leave.

Swansea have told Everton to either stump up £50m for Gylfi Sigurdsson or stop trying to sign him.

The Icelandic international is understood to be Everton’s top target after they sealed a deal for Wayne Rooney, with the club holding a long-standing interest in the player.

Reports suggested that Everton were readying a £35m bid for the playmaker but ‘Sky Sports News’ reports that Swansea are demanding £50m and are growing frustrated by reports that they believe are being used to unsettle the player.

Sigurdsson scored 9 goals and provided 13 assists for the Swans last season and is seen as the perfect addition by Ronald Koeman, with the Everton boss looking to share goals between his squad as the club prepare for the departure of Romelu Lukaku.

The 27-year-old has three years left on his Swansea contract and is believed to be the club’s highest paid player.

A source close to the Swansea board told the ‘Mail Online’ that: “Swansea will not be pushed around and are not looking to sell.”

“They have a figure in mind that they feel represents Sigurdsson’s worth in the market and if nobody reaches that they are very comfortable about keeping him.”

Though with the Romelu Lukaku money yet to land in Everton’s transfer kitty, they could certainly still afford to pay Swansea’s asking price.
