Ex-Professionals All Stars have emerged as champions of the fourth edition of the Abuja Veterans Tournament which came to a close over the weekend at the FIFA Goal Project Centre in Abuja.
The Ex-Professionals defeated Nyanya All Stars 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a stalemate during the regulation time. Nyanya All Stars goalkeepers, Ifeanyi, was the man-of-the-match after denying the highly favoured Ex-Professionals several scoring chances. Ifeanyi was later named both the Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.
Likeminds of Kuje defeated Corporate Kickers Sports Club winning 5-3 on penalties in the third-place match after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Okam Orji Okam scored for Likeminds in the 21st minute but Ovie Nutata equalised for Corporate Kickers Sports Club to force the game into penalties.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Patrick Bassey, praised the 20 participating teams for their resilience, determination, and discipline throughout the competition.
Prominent dignitaries who graced the event are chairman of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye; former chairman of the defunct League Management Company (LMC); Shehu Dikko, Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen, former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia and others.
