Members of Ex-Spartans footballers International club of Owerri have lamented over the present health condition of their members.
The group in an address presented by their President Mr. Evan Uzokwe during their June Monthly meeting held at FA office Dan Anyiam Stadium disclosed that some of their members are suffering from physical incapacity arising from past injuries
He called for relevant medical attention and monthly stipends for the members who have served the state creditably in terms of winning laurels for the state.
Welcoming their leader and former General Manager of defunct Iwuanuanwu Nationale Owerri, Chief Lemy Akakem to the meeting, the former Head of Service Imo State said that the history of football in I’m state cannot be written without the Spartans FC.
He said that Spartans FC achieved numerous accolades that placed the young Imo State in enviable football position
He attributed the possibility of those achievements to the management acumen and prowess of Lemmy Akakem and a few others
The President while describing the presence of Lemmy Akakem in their June meeting as an eloquent testimony and indication of priceless value and trust shown in all spheres of life.
He said that the association is proud to identify with Lemy Akakem while commending the Governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma for finding him worthy to serve and contribute to the 3R administration in the state.
He pointed out the major and key objective of the Ex-Spartans Forum which is to encourage unity of purpose anchored on the need to maximise the welfare of members and provide essential advice to the present footballers.
The body commended the current administration for his regular payment of pension and giving the issue of gratuity a human face.
They equally thanked the Governor for the quality of roads such as Owerr-Okigwe, Orlu road and Umuahia road which he has built for the people of the state
Addressing his Ex-Spartans players, the former GM of defunct Iwuanuanwu Anyanwu National, Lemy Akakem described the former players as people that made the state and the country tick.
While thanking God for their lives, he commended the leadership of Ex-Spartans FC for being resolute in piloting the affairs of the association.
On the payment of gratuity and pension, Akakem described the body as a special people as he promised to take up the matter with the state government with a view to tackling it.
He assured his resolve to continue to support the association to ensure its sustainability while advising them to go and register in the ongoing Government Insurance Scheme.
