EX-England star, Alan Shearer, has backed Fulham to beat Manchester United when both sides clash in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford today.
“I watched the Man Utd game for the first-half against Ipswich and once again they were all over the place. This game is a tough one to call. It will be a long afternoon—I’m not impressed with Man United, they’re in a really tough situation at the moment, so I’m going to go for an away win,” Shearer told Metro.
Also, Fulham’s Andreas Pereira claims the Red Devils have been “a little lucky” during their two wins over his side this term.
The Premier League outfits will face off for a third time today this season.
Recall that on both previous occasions, United secured narrow 1-0 victories despite enduring a difficult campaign.
“I’m looking forward to it [the match]. For me, it’s going to be a particularly special game. We still have the feeling from the first year I was here, what happened. For sure, we’re going to be prepared for everything. It’s a special game, a special place for everyone I think.
“We played United twice this season and maybe they came out a little lucky. We learned a lot from these two games and I’m sure the players have extra fire in the belly to go against them,” Pereira told FFCTV.
Fulham sit above the Red Devils and are in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
Marco Silva’s side lost 0-1 at Old Trafford on the opening night of the season as Joshua Zirkzee scored late on. Several weeks ago, Ruben Amorim’s side secured a 1-0 win at Craven Cottage, courtesy of Lisandro Martinez’s deflected strike.
In the last 15 years, Fulham have beaten United just once, that coming last year at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
