FA Cup: Toure, Iheanacho help City into semis

Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure and Nigerian attacker Kelechi Iheanacho both played in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday which secured passage into the semi-final of the FA Cup.

The Citizens won 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium thanks to an early strike from David Silva, while Sergio Aguero netted the second goal midway through the second half.

Toure started and played 86 minutes before he was replaced in midfield by Fernando, while Iheanacho made a brief substitute appearance in place of Aguero.

Both African players will be keen on more action this coming midweek when City face the return leg match of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie against Monaco.

Meanwhile, City manager Pep Guardiola after the game said: “We were outstanding from the beginning. We have now played three teams from the Premier League and one from the Championship.

“We played a good performance and were there from the first minute. We have missed a lot of chances throughout the season and the game should have been over 30 minutes before. We need to improve that, but I am happy and we can play Monaco.

“When you attack good, you defend good. We want to play in this way. Claudio made a good performance and that is why we were able to have another clean sheet. I like to work with these guys. I’m so happy.”
