Despite not yet having being found guilty of any crime, there are conflicting reports as to whether Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo would go to prison or not for tax evasion.
Since being accused by Spanish prosecutors of 4 counts of tax evasion, totalling €14.7 million, there has been much speculation as to the Portuguese star’s current legal situation.
According to a report today in ‘Goal’, Ronaldo would not be sent to prison for the offence as there is no precedent for serving time behind bars for tax evasion.
The same source went on to say that the ex-United man would only be likely to see the inside of a prison cell in the event that the sentence given to him by the court exceeds 24 months.
However, other sources are not quite so confident. For example, Spanish daily ‘Sport’ reports that Ronaldo could be forced to serve between 2 and 6 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Gethsa President Carlos Cruzado, speaking on Madrid-based radio station ‘Cadena Ser’, asserted that if the offences were deemed to be of an ‘aggravated’ nature, the minimum sentence could be as much as 7 years.
There are clearly many opinions and points of view circulating about one man’s future prospects. At this moment in time, it is hard to say if Ronaldo’s playing career and reputation will be tarnished as a result these allegations.
