The chairman FCT Football Association (FCT-FA), Adam Mouktar Mohammed, has congratulated Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on the emergence of Victor Osimhen, Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Super Falcons as Men’s African Footballer of the Year, Women’s African Footballer of the Year, Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Women’s National Team of The Year respectively at the prestigious 2023 CAF Awards ceremony which was held in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday.
The FCT FA boss in a statement signed by his media adviser, Uche Nwudoh-Hillary, particularly congratulated Gusau for the awards saying his (Gusau) leadership qualities and achievements in just one year in office is a testament of his capabilities, good intentions to run Nigerian football and take it to enviable heights in Africa.
“I am particularly happy for Gusau for this great achievement, it’s not easy considering the enormous work he is saddled with. We can see under his administration the Super Falcon players have done well both individually and collectively. A 24-year wait for the prestigious Men’s Africa Footballer of the Year happened in his time. Also sweeping the women’s category of Best Player and Goalkeeper is a testament of his abilities and good intentions to run football as the results are evident for all to see.
“I am very happy. Indeed, this year has been hugely rewarding for Nigeria football and for our country as a whole. I congratulate Victor Osimhen, Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie and I congratulate the Super Falcons as a team for bringing us this honour.”
Tribune Sports report that the Napoli forward beat the North African duo of Mohammed Salah (Egypt) and Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) to clinch the award while Oshoala won a record-extending sixth award as Player of the Year.
