Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, FCT Chapter, Comrade Kayode Adeniyi has denied a media report quoting him as condemning the denial of the Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung on his earlier comments on the performance of Nigerian athletes.
Adeniyi, who spoke in Abuja noted that at no time did he grant any interview to any reporter, adding that any position which SWAN would take on any issue of importance could only be rooted through an official press release.
He maintained that SWAN was yet to issue any official statement after Barrister Dalung accused its members of bias in his rejoinder days ago.
Adeniyi, in a press release made public in Abuja on Thursday said: “At no time did I grant any interview talk more of making official comment on the accusation of Sports Minister concerning my members.
“Though members of the sporting media had inundated SWAN secretariat with concerns over accusation by the Sports Minister that journalists quoted him wrongly, SWAN is yet to address the issue”.
“My candid advice to both the Sports Ministry and my colleague is that all hands should be on deck to ensure holistic development of Sports in Nigeria. The current exploits of Team Nigeria at the ongoing Paralympic Games shows that the country is blessed with abundant human resources.
“Only concentrated approach will help to galvanise abundant potential scattered all over the country for future glorious outings in international tournaments,” he stated in the release.
