The management of Crown Football Club, Ogbomoso has petitioned the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Senate House Committee on Sports over the poor handling of its Federation Cup semi final match against FC IfeanyiUbah, played on Wednesday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Also petitioned is the House of Representatives Committee on Sports.
The centre referee, A.A Ibraheem had disallowed an 88th minute goal scored by Crown’s Yakubu Ahmed which led to the encroachment on the field by aggrieved fans who believed the referee’s action was a deliberate one to deny the Ogbomoso team a place in the final.
In the petition signed by Kaseem Olayiwola, the club’s Secretary on behalf of the club’s management and a copy of which was made available to Tribunesport, faulted the referee’s decision to disallow the goal after he had initially pointed to the centre circle indicating that it was a goal.
“We are contesting the decision of the centre referee to disallow a good goal by our player, Yakubu Ahmed, which led to the match being abandoned in the 88th minute when some aggrieved fans from Kaduna distrupted the flow of the game by encroaching on the field of play,’the petition partly read.
The club also prays the Federation to order the replay of the match in the spirit of fair play.
The petition which was submitted on Thursday through the Kaduna State Football Association to the office of Secretary General of the NFF was accompanied with the tape recording of the match as evidence.
A source in the office of the NFF secretary general who did not want his name in print confirmed the receipt of the petition to Tribunesport but added that he could not say much on it since the Secretary general is in Cairo for the CAF congress.
