FIFA expels E/Guinea from 2019 female World Cup

Equatorial Guinea have been banned from 2019 Women’s World Cup after picking no fewer than 10 ineligible Brazilians.

FIFA has expelled the nation from the competition after they used forged documents to field a host of ineligible players.

Equatorial Guinea were also fined £78,000 for the stunt.

In a previous related case, FIFA banned the African nation from the 2020 Olympic qualifying series, in a decision related to a Brazil-born player.

Further investigation from the governing body of world football found ten more ineligible players from the South American nation had been fielded.

A FIFA statement reads: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the Equatorial Guinea Football Association with expulsion from the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019”.

It added there would be “a fine of CHF 100,000 for fielding ineligible players during the preliminary competition of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Rio 2016.”

The ban was in relation to “the use of forged and falsified documents by two of its players”.

The tournament will take place in France, from June 7 to July 7, 2019.
