FIFA orders NFF to pay Rohr N157m as compensation

The world soccer-governing body, FIFA has ordered the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay erstwhile Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, about $380,000 [over N157 million] as compensation for wrongful dismissal.

Recall Rohr was sacked last December by the NFF a few weeks to the kick off of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
Though, NFF agreed to pay Rohr, who took over from Sunday Oliseh in August 2016 until the end of his contract which expires this December, but the former Gabon and Niger tactician not satisfied with the decision petitioned FIFA to demand better compensation.
It was gathered that Rohr, 68, sought £1 million as compensation, but was only granted $377,879.46 after a FIFA tribunal decided his claim was “partially accepted in so far as it is admissible”.
“For breach of contract without just cause, NFF have to pay my salaries until the end of December,” Rohr told journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
“For me, the most important is not the money, but that the football tribunal has accepted my claim, in absence of “just cause”. The ruling by the FIFA players’ status chamber also gave the NFF 45 days to pay Rohr in full or be sanctioned.
“If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent [the NFF] shall be imposed a restriction on receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid,” FIFA ruled.
Meanwhile, it is believed that NFF will not appeal the FIFA ruling.
