Former Man Utd player to become Chelsea boss?

Former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc has become a candidate to take over from Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager this summer.

Chelsea’s relationship with Conte has worsened because he’s refusing to quit the job, meaning the club will have to pay the Italian a hefty compensation package.

According to Betway, Blanc has now taken over from Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri as the leading candidate to be the next man at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

Blanc would bring quite a bit of experience with him to Stamford Bridge, having enjoyed a hugely successful playing career in his home country and abroad.

From Montpellier to Napoli in 1991 before playing for the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan and, of course, United.

He also helped his country to major honours at the 1998 World Cup and at the European Championships two years later.

Following his decision to retire from football in 2003, Blanc took to football management in 2007 with Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux where he made a huge impression. They won the domestic title in his second season in charge.

There was also a season when Bordeaux topped a Champions League group containing Bayern Munich and Juventus without losing a single game.

Blanc earned the France national team job in 2010 but stepped down two-years later following their quarter-final exit against Spain at Euro 2012, which would suggest he’s a manager that doesn’t take defeats too lightly.

Returning to management a year later, Blanc took the Paris Saint-German job after Carlo Ancelotti went to on to better things at Real Madrid. There, he won the Ligue 1 title in each of his three seasons but couldn’t deliver the Champions League.

Blanc left PSG two-years ago and has been out of work since.
