Former Manchester United star Memphis Depay turned some heads at French football awards
MEMPHIS Depay dons outlandish gold jacket at French football awards as winger continues resurgence at Lyon.
Memphis Depay has gained a reputation for his outlandish attire off the pitch, and the winger did not disappoint at the French football awards on Monday.
The Lyon star arrived at the Trophees UNFP wearing a black jacket emblazoned with garish gold material.
His designer sunglasses and strut down the red carpet bore resemblance to a Hollywood film star rather than a Ligue 1 footballer.
Depay’s social media accounts are filled with him at photoshoots or being pictured in something particularly eye-catching.
But Lyon won’t mind his latest get-up if he continues to perform the way he has since making the switch from Manchester United in January.
Compatriot Frank de Boer warned the 23-year-old to start performing on the field before attracting attention off it – and he seems to have taken heed of that advice.
The Dutchman has scored five goals in 15 league games for the French side, including a David Beckham-like strike from the halfway line against Toulouse in March – a strike which is a contender for goal of the season at the awards evening.
The United flop has begun to make waves across the Channel and many hope he can hone his off-field antics and plough them into his incredible potential on it.
