Gary Neville has suggested Arsenal sign Yaya Toure this summer following the midfielder’s exit from Manchester City.
The Ivory Coast international has left City after a glittering and trophy-laden eight years at the Etihad, and has admitted he’d like to stay in the English Premier League for another season or two.
When he joined City back in the summer of 2010 from Barcelona, Toure was regarded as one of the best players in the world in his position, and his lung-bursting and explosive displays in midfield helped turn City into one of English football’s dominant forces.
But, now 35, it seems a safe bet that Toure’s best days are behind him, but Neville still reckons he could do a job at the Emirates.
The Manchester United legend told Sky Sports yesterday, via Football365: We were talking about Arsenal, about having that strength in midfield, the character and the leadership.
“To be fair they could do worse than maybe have him for a season to sort out the culture in there.
“You’d have to play him in midfield, you couldn’t play him at the back.
“In his first three or four seasons in the Premier League, he was outstanding, he was one of the most dominant forces.
“You talk about (Vincent) Kompany, Yaya Toure, (David) Silva, (Sergio) Aguero; they are the Manchester City players who mostly transformed Manchester City from being nowhere near winning a title to being champions of England.”
As we’ve told you previously, Chelsea have also been tipped to take Toure on for a season or two, but what do you think?
