Gateway Games: Ekiti wins bronze in Ayo Olopon, records victory in boxing

Ekiti State on Tuesday added a bronze medal to the table of the ongoing 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun State.

This came courtesy of Yaya Omolara in the women’s single of the game of Ayo Olopon, beating her opponent to clinch the medal.

Similarly, Team Ekiti commenced fight for medals in the game of boxing on Tuesday as Aboderin Ramadan recorded victory against Olaiya Quadri from FCT in the 55kg male category preliminary.

It was also a win for Wole Omotola who defeated Emmanuel Kingsley from Niger State in the 65kg category.

Other Ekiti state boxers will be competing on Wednesday, while those who were in action on Tuesday will hope to consolidate on the victory to reach medal zones.

Ekiti team defeated Sokoto 3-1 in the badminton men’s team event.

Meanwhile, Ekiti will be taking part in golf, tennis and other postponed games on Wednesday at the ongoing festival.
