Gernot Rohr confident Nigeria will beat Algeria in Uyo

The tactician has admitted that the Greens are a tough side, but insisted the three-time African champions will tame them in Uyo on Saturday

Coach Gernot Rohr has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

The tactician led the three-time African champions to a 2-1 victory over Zambia in Ndola last month and he has insisted that they are not moved by the Greens’ ranking on the continent, saying that his boys have the quality to humble their foes at the nest of champions on Saturday.

Rohr said he will focus more on his attack against the Desert Warriors after admitting that his side’s strike force against the Chipolopolo were wasteful, which limited the number of goals in that encounter to two.

“You know Algeria is number one officially in Africa, but we will use our best team and see if we can beat them,” Rohr told media.

“The difference between Zambia and Algeria is that there are very big players in the Algerian team, they have one of the best players in England, they have champions, they have very good players who are formed in France, most of them from the French academies, and so they have good education, good discipline, and good tactical qualities.

“I know it will be difficult, but I’m sure we will make a good game and all the players will give their best.

“We must be more efficient, we had lots of opportunities to score in our first game in Ndola, we only scored at one time, we worked hard, we made a lot of exercises of shooting in training, we will do it again this week, and we hope we will be more efficient than the last time.

“But already in Zambia was better, and we must also have good defence and that is what we are working on at the moment, to have a very good defence because there are very good attack in the Algerian team.”
