The German tactician has ruled out the FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper for Saturday’s game
Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr has ruled out FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s Ikechukwu Ezenwa for Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifying game against Algeria due to his limited playing time.
The Super Eagles gaffer has finally made a statement on who will start in goal for Nigeria after an initial selection headache with Chippa United’s Daniel Akpeyi, Cesarense’s Dele Alampasu in pole position to man the goal post.
The German expressed his worries in the fitness level of the home-based Eagles goalkeeper who hasn’t been in action for the Anambra Warriors lately and has probably settled for the former U17 goalkeeper and the Dream Team VI goalkeeper.
“I am confident in all three goalkeepers in camp. Akpeyi is playing regularly and so too Alampasu. I attended the Federation Cup final to see Ezenwa play, but was disappointed he was not played. I’ve never seen him play a game live,” Rohr told the media.
“I maintain I cannot feature players who have stayed six weeks without action. It’s unfortunate but that’s how it is.”
