Giwa rallies support for Osun athletes at table tennis festival

A frontline Osun West Senatorial aspirant for 2027, Quadri Temitayo Giwa, on Monday, made a notable appearance at the opening ceremony of the 6th edition of the Michael and Felicia Alabi Memorial Table Tennis Festival in Otan-Ayegbaju, Osun State.

Giwa, known for his passion for sports development, joined dignitaries and enthusiasts to cheer the Osun contingent, reaffirming his commitment to youth engagement and grassroots sports advancement.

The senatorial hopeful, who was warmly received by the team, urged athletes and coaches to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to excellence.

He also assured them of his continued support, stressing the importance of sports as a veritable tool for youth empowerment and community development.

Addressing participants, Giwa emphasised the need for sportsmanship throughout the competition, while calling on governments at all levels to prioritise sporting activities.

According to him, sports, if properly harnessed, could serve as a significant driver of economic growth.

“I am here to support our team, the Osun contingent, and I urge all participants to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship,” he said.

“Like advanced countries, Nigeria has the potential to turn sports into wealth.

“Our nation is blessed with talented and energetic youths who possess both the mental and physical strength required to excel globally. What they need is adequate support from stakeholders and government.”

Giwa further commended the organizers of the tournament for their role in promoting sports development at the grassroots level.

The event was officially declared open by the Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi who praised the initiative and encouraged participants to take the competition seriously while upholding the spirit of fair play.

The annual tournament, which continues to attract budding talents and sports enthusiasts, is expected to deliver thrilling matches and further spotlight the importance of sports development in Osun State.
