The National Sports Commission (NSC), ahead of the Commonwealth Games tagged ‘Glasgow 2026’, has unveiled the financial incentives for Team Nigeria’s athletes and coaches, thus reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to rewarding outstanding performances on the international stage.
Speaking on Friday at the Media Centre Package A of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, the Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, said the incentive was designed to motivate Team Nigeria to strive for podium finishes while adding that athletes who win medals at the Commonwealth Games will receive cash bonuses based on the colour of their medals.
Olopade also added that coaches will not be left out of the reward structure, saying the roles in preparing athletes for international success cannot be overemphasised.

He urged the athletes not just to focus on winning medals but also to aim for records.
Olopade said, “I have told the athletes to go out there and compete for Nigeria. They should not just aim to win medals; they should aim to break world records. This is another step in our preparation towards the 2028 Olympic Games.
“Gold medal winners will receive $3,000, silver medalists will get $2,000, while bronze medalists will be rewarded with $1,000. Coaches will receive $5,000 dollars as part of our incentive package to appreciate their hard work and dedication in helping our athletes achieve success.”
