Liberia’s president elect, George Weah has urged former Cote d’Ivoire captain, Didier Drogba to consider partisan politics too saying “follow the same path”.
Weah according to ghanaweb.com made the admonition through the social media while reacting to the outpour of congratulatory messages which came on the wake of his victory in the 2017 Liberia’s presidential election.
Former Ghanaian international, Anthony Baffoe, had congratulated in a tweet where he quoted the late Dr Nelson Mandela in part and described the 1995 World Footballer of the Year as a “great man.”
Drogba, responded by quoting Baffoe’s tweet as he felicitated with Senator Weah.
“It is indeed!!!!!! Felicitations Mr Georges,” former Chelsea star, Drogba, who plays for USA second-tier outfit, Phoenix Rising FC tweeted.
An elated Weah in his response to Drogba’s tweet writes: “Merci Didier de ton soutien, nous sommes tous les deux soucieux et conscients du destin de nos peuples. Suivons le même chemin…” meaning “Thanks Didier for the support, we are both conscious and aware of the fate of our people. Follow the same path.”
It will be recalled, that Weah, who also won the 1995 African Footballer of the Year, had lost in the 2006 election to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
