It was a memorable day at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club Golf Section on Saturday, as golfers, friends, and family gathered for the 2nd Annual Memorial Kitty in honour of the late Brigadier General Benjamin Adekunle, popularly known as Black Scorpion.
The Adekunle family turned up in strong representation. His daughter, Mrs. Busola Olagunju led the ceremonial tee-off, joined by Sir Olusegun Adekunle, former Permanent Secretary; Mr. Adeyinka Aderibigbe, Captain of the Club; and Prof. Olajide Ajao, Vice President of the Recreation Club, who also hosted the occasion.
The atmosphere was warm and colourful as players teed off in memory of the late General, blending competitive golf with heartfelt tributes.
The event was more than just a tournament—it was a celebration of the values of courage, unity, and service that the Black Scorpion stood for.
Speaking after the games, Club Captain Mr. Adeyinka Aderibigbe expressed appreciation to the family, guests, and golfers who made the kitty a success. He noted that the memorial kitty has now become a cherished tradition in Ogbomoso’s golfing calendar, one that will continue to honour General Adekunle’s enduring legacy.
The day ended with laughter, shared memories, and a firm resolve to keep the memory of one of Nigeria’s finest soldiers alive through sport.
