Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state has given the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Football Club the sum of N50 million.
The boon was for having finished second and thereby qualifying for next season’s Caf Champions League.
This was disclosed in a Facebook post by the club’s chairman and coordinator, Godwin Enakhena.
According to him, the breakdown of the money is N25m for qualification and the other N25m is for participation in the competition.
Ambode also gave the go-ahead for renovation work to be carried out at the team’s home ground, the Agege stadium, which will host its CAF Champions League matches.
Enakhena wrote, “Gov. Ambode of Lagos State is a great man. Had the privilege of leading MFMFC to the government house in Alausa today and he put smiles on the faces of players and coaches:
-N25m for CAF Champions League qualification
-N25m for participation in the competition
-Approves renovation work to be carried out on Agege stadium to enable MFMFC play CAF matches at the venue
-Lagos premier league to begin first quarter of 2019. Private investors business.
-Games Village to be constructed along Epe”.
The Lagos-based MFMFC is owned by the Mountain of Fire and Miracles church. It plays in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and was whiskers away from winning the league last term but lost the title by four points to Plateau United.
