Graham Potter, the Chelsea manager, has revealed that he was too caught up in the emotions of Tuesday’s huge 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund to watch Kai Havertz score a penalty.
Despite losing the first leg 1-0, Chelsea put in an impressive performance at Stamford Bridge to secure their second consecutive victory with goals from Raheem Sterling and Havertz.
Potter has been under immense pressure, and he admitted that he could not bear to watch as Havertz took his second penalty of the match. The German striker had been given a second chance after his first effort hit the post due to some encroachment.
When asked about the penalty, Potter told BT Sport: “After the first one, I thought I’d sit down and listen to the crowd. I wasn’t watching it but delighted when I heard the roar.”

Potter went on to praise the team’s performance, saying, “The boys played fantastic. I am delighted for them to get the win and great for everyone here.”
He acknowledged the importance of the victory in the Champions League and the team’s desire to progress further in the competition. However, Potter also pointed out that the team needed to recover quickly for their upcoming Premier League match against Leicester on Saturday.

He said, “It is great for the boys, two clean sheets after a tough period. You get that in life and it is about how you respond, and the players have been fantastic.”
Potter acknowledged the challenge that Leicester would pose, but he was optimistic about his team’s chances. “It is not easy to put pressure on them because they are a top team playing with confidence. Credit to the players; they gave everything and over the two games, I thought we deserved to go through,” he added.
With their spot secured in the last eight of the Champions League, Chelsea will now turn their attention to their upcoming Premier League match. They will be looking to build on their recent success and move up the table from their current position of tenth.
