Antoine Griezmann is reportedly contemplating retiring from international football after being overlooked for the captaincy of the French national team in favor of Kylian Mbappe.
Manager Didier Deschamps appointed Mbappe as the new skipper after Hugo Lloris retired following the World Cup final defeat in December 2022.

Griezmann, who saw himself as the top candidate for the France captaincy, has become a leader in the team in recent years and has scored 42 goals from 117 caps for his country.

According to reports, Griezmann is “hurt and upset” by Deschamps’ decision, with the manager reportedly seeing Mbappe as his choice of “legitimacy.”
Also, Griezmann is said to have expressed his disappointment at the national football centre in Clarefontaine after Mbappe was announced as the new leader.
The decision has created doubts in Griezmann’s mind about his international future, and the next week’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland may play a key role in his decision.
