The Ivorian midfielder will appear in court on a drink-drive charge on Tuesday and his manager says they will find a “solution” depending on the outcome
Yaya Toure’s place in the Manchester City team could come under threat depending on the outcoming of his upcoming court appearance on a drink-drive charge.
Toure was pulled over by police in Dagenham, east London, around 11pm on November 29 and was taken to a local station after a breathalyser test indicated his alcohol level was above the legal limit.
Guardiola had given his City players two days off at the start of that week but were due back in training the day after Toure’s arrest.
Toure will appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ court this coming Tuesday to answer the charge.
And while Guardiola initially insisted the midfielder’s role in the team will depend on his performances, he did say he will evaluate the situation after Toure learns his fate.
“I spoke with him about the issue, he gave me his reasons,” Guardiola said. “I trust him. ‘So no, I take decisions based on what I see on the pitch and his behaviour.
“I said this before I played him against Crystal Palace. He is part of the team because he is training good and he is fit.
“I love midfield players. I’ve said many times that if I could play with 11 midfield players I would play with 11 midfield players. He is one of them. After the charge we are going to see what is the solution.”
