The LOC Chairman, Engineer Habu Gumel’s wealth of experience in the world of Sports cannot just be thrown into the bin.
Gumel is an international figure and his experience in the sporting industry will give Nigeria an edge, most especially in Olympic sector.
His contribution to Sports is a signposts for excellence and greater heights for sports in Nigeria.
The only criticism people have about him is age factor, but Gumel is physically fit and mentally sound. He is qualified and eligible to contest.
It would be recalled that from 1997 to 2001, he was part of the Nigeria Olympic Committee. In 1998, Gumel was member and secretary of the Finance Commission of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
In 2008, he was Executive Vice-President, and in 2009 he was the FIVB Technical Delegate for the London 2012 Olympic Games. In 2010, he was a member of the Steering Committee of the FIVB Development Fund.
From 2000 to 2009, he was Director of Sports Facilities for the defunct National Sports Commission (NSC) in Abuja. From 2002 to 2009, he was a Presidential Committee Member of the All-African Games. 2005 to 2007, he was a Member and Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Abuja Bid Committee for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
