Haastrup wins Richard/Elizabeth Akinjide memorial golf tourney

A member of Tiger Golf Club, Haastrup Olufemi, at the weekend won the Richard and Elizabeth Akinjide Memorial Golf tournament played at Tiger Golf Club, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan.

Haastrup clinched the overall winner prize of the tournament with 87 Gross and 69 Net, as he attributed his feat to the boost from Litetech Ltd which he said enabled him to improve on his game.

“This is another challenge for me to improve on my game and focus on Tiger Open scheduled for next month,” an elated Haastrup told Tribunesport.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide said that Elizabeth Adesola Akinjide Memorial Golf tournament was initiated by her departed father, Chief Richard Akinjide SAN, in honour of their mother over a decade ago.

“Everyone who knew our dad will testify to his great love and devotion to her during her lifetime. It is also a testament of his love for golf, (the only sporting activity he both participated in and travelled the world to watch international golf open tournaments), that the public Memorial to his wife was a golf tournament held in his beloved city of Ibadan. Bringing together three great loves of his life-his wife, golf and Ibadan,” she said.

Captain of TGC, Barrister Tunde Akande thanked the sponsor saying: “Perhaps in view of the generous goodwill and the tremendous interests this tournament usually generate annually, I want to plead with our sponsor to give a serious consideration to expand both the scope and the structure of this tournament to a two-day event to meet the yearnings of golfers nationwide especially against the background of the huge pedigree and the International clout of late Chief Richard Akinjide SAN whose footprints adorned the Legal jurisprudence like a colossus.”
