Hatayspor confirms recovery of sporting director corpse from rubble two weeks after earthquake
Turkish soccer club Hatayspor confirmed the recovery of the body of their sporting director, Taner Savut, on Tuesday over two weeks after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria.
The earthquake, which occurred on February 6, 2023, has led to the death of almost 46,000 people, including Christian Atsu, a Ghanaian international forward who played for Hatayspor and lived in the same luxury 12-story building in Antakya, Hatay province, as Savut.

The club expressed deep sadness at Savut’s death, while other top-flight clubs and the Turkish Football Federation conveyed their condolences.
The contractor responsible for building the Ronesans Rezidans complex, where both Atsu and Savut resided, was detained at Istanbul Airport more than a week ago, allegedly attempting to leave the country.
