Havertz misses Germany training through injury

Kai Havertz did not train with Germany on either Tuesday or Wednesday after complaining of pain in his thigh.

The Chelsea man is suspended for Thursday’s visit of Liechtenstein, having picked up too many yellow cards in qualifying already.

It doesn’t look like he would be fit enough to play anyway as Bild note that Havertz has been dealing with discomfort in his thigh, and given he won’t be playing on Thursday anyway, he has not been training with his team-mates.

The injury does not appear to be too serious and there’s no mention of what the actual problem is besides a bruise, but it would be a huge surprise if this didn’t have anything to do with his nasty clash with the advertising hoardings in the 1-1 draw with Burnley before the international break.

A tangle with Ben Mee sent Havertz flying over the pitchside wall and the German looked to be in real discomfort as he was helped to his feet by some spectators.

Havertz managed to shake the pain off and scored his side’s only goal of the game a few minutes later, heading home from close range before Matej Vydra’s late equaliser spoiled the fun for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

It’s hard to see this issue keeping Havertz out of Chelsea’s next game, a trip to Leicester on November 20, but it’ll have fans sweating nonetheless.

It’s a similar situation for fellow midfielder Mason Mount, who has been ruled out of England’s meeting with Albania on Friday following surgery on an infected wisdom tooth.

The issue saw Mount miss two games, the 3-0 win over Newcastle and the 1-0 triumph over Malmo, but he did manage five minutes at the end of the Burnley game.

Mount underwent surgery early in the international break and there was some hope that he would make it back in time for the Albania game, but a quick look at Mount’s Twitter feed will show you he was in no condition to play.

Both players will expect to be back in time for the Leicester game, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
