Hazard unveiled to 50,000 Real Madrid fans

Eden Hazard savoured a day to remember as 50,000 Real Madrid fans turned out for his official unveiling as a Los Blancos player on Thursday evening.

The Belgium star was given a rapturous applause by the supporters in attendance as he took to the hallowed turf having successfully undergone his medical in the Spanish capital earlier in the day.

Real had announced they had agreed a deal to sign the playmaker from Chelsea last week after a protracted pursuit.

He underwent his medical at Madrid’s La Moraleja University Hospital shortly before 7pm local time on Thursday, with the 28-year-old then officially signing his five-year contract before participating in his unveiling and subsequent press conference.

Sitting alongside Real president Florentino Perez, Hazard put pen-to-paper on his contract before moving to the trophy room to pose with the famous white shirt ahead of a presentation ceremony.

Perez addressed the crowd, saying: “Everyone who loves this club feels a special emotion. A uniquely talented player with extraordinary quality comes to play at our club.”

He added: “Eden, you are where you wanted to be. This was your dream, your dream has come true and you are here to defend the shirt.

“You will experience great passion from the city. The most important thing you will realise here are the fans.

“We’d like to thank you for deciding to join this club. The fans you see behind you will be here at every game. They know you are unique, your brand of football is special. Welcome to your new home!”
