Henry set to replace Steve Bruce as Aston Villa manager

Steve Bruce meets with the new Aston Villa owners tomorrow (Wednesday) knowing that his fate hangs very much in the balance.

The future of one of the country’s most experienced bosses is still up in the air with some reports claiming that the appointment of Thierry Henry is but a formality.

The Daily Star and The Mirror have both splashed back page spreads in recent days saying that the former Arsenal and France legend, Henry has agreed to become the new manager.

Today’s back page of the Daily Star considers the Henry appointment to be a done deal, if the 40-year-old can get the reassurances he needs from the Villa hierarchy.

The report by Chief Football writer, David Woods, claims that the new owners are unconvinced as to whether Bruce is the right man to lead the revival.

They state that: “A source who close to the takeover negotiations told Starsport last night Henry had “verbally agreed” to be Villa’s new boss.”

Reports have also suggested that Henry will bring his former Arsenal teammate Steve Bould in as assistant.

Bould is assistant manager at Arsenal and himself facing a time of uncertainty due to the arrival of new manager Unai Emery.

Juan Carlos Carcedo has already come in alongside Bould as a new assistant at the club and it could be that Bould would be tempted by a fresh start after the exit of his long-time mentor, Arsene Wenger.

Until Steve Bruce is out of his meeting, it remains to be seen what the situation is and the direction the club want to go in.
