Serena Williams
US Open Day 8 witnessed history when, for the first time, three mothers entered the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament.
Victories for Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Tsvetana Pironkova means the three moms have entered history books.
Azarenka won a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory over 20th-seeded Karolina Muchova while Pironva topped Alice Cornet 6-4, 6-7(7-5),6-3.
In her own case, Serena Williams won a tough three-set battle against Greek lady Maria Sakkari.
It became more evident in this year’s US Open outings so far that things are not easy for Williams as the 38-year-old tennis super star had to fight three gruelling sets in two consecutive matches for survival.
Williams looked composed as she took the first set in 37 minutes but dropped the second in a tiebreak.

Serena had to take out her best tennis to come back from 0-2 down in the third by winning six of the match’s final seven games.
The two-and-a half hour long match ended with the score line going in Serena’s favour; 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3.
Williams is just three wins away from what would be her Grand Slam singles title No. 24.
