Hockey AFCON: Nigerian teams commence camping August 24

… as National Super League kicks off November 1

The Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) has announced that both the men’s and women’s national teams will commence a six-week training camp in Abuja starting August 24 as part of preparations for the Hockey African Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to hold in Egypt from 11th to 18th October, 2025.

The NHF made the announcement during a virtual board meeting held via Zoom where the Federation President, Engineer Simon Nkom, commended the dedication and commitment of board members over the past four years and credited their efforts for the remarkable progress recorded in the sport.

“We could not have come this far as a Federation without the excellent and precise contributions and unwavering support of our Board members. Hockey has indeed grown since we came on board and we are proud of where we are. We will continue working hard to grow the game further,” Nkom said.

During the meeting, the board confirmed that the National Super League will take place from November 1 to 9, 2025. Also, a five-member committee was inaugurated to review matters related to player transfers and athlete elections. Their findings are expected to be presented at the Board’s next meeting on Tuesday.

The committee members are Samuel Fagunwa, Baba Ndana, Arthur Jumbo, Felix Geghor and Garko Bamidele.
