Holders Paris Saint-Germain made a flying start to their Champions League title defence with a commanding 4-0 victory over Atalanta at the Parc des Princes.
Marquinhos struck inside three minutes to set the tone, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the lead with a superb solo effort just before half-time.
Bradley Barcola missed the chance to add a third from the penalty spot, but Nuno Mendes made amends early in the second half with a sharp finish at the near post. Substitute Gonçalo Ramos then pounced on a defensive error in stoppage time to wrap up the win.
Luis Enrique’s side, who lifted the trophy for the first time in May with a 5-0 rout of Inter Milan, were rarely troubled by the visitors and showed their intent to go deep again in this season’s competition.
PSG now face tricky October trips to Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen, while Atalanta must regroup quickly ahead of their clash with Club Brugge.
