Serena Williams
Serena Williams has admitted he thought she would have retired 10 years ago ahead of the US Open clash with Bianca Andreescu.
Serena Williams claims she thought she would have retired a decade ago.
The 37-year-old is through to the US Open final where she takes on Bianca Andreescu knowing victory will equal Margaret Court’s all-time Grand Slam record of 24 titles.
However, the American was once not sure if she would even still be playing tennis so late into her career.
“At 17 I thought for sure I’d be retired at 28, 29, living my life,” Williams said.

“So, yeah, I would have thought it was a sick joke (smiling).”
Canadian Andreescu is in uncharted territory having never before been past the second round of a major tournament.
Williams won her first ever US Open title (1999) a year before Andreescu was even born.
And the American juggernaut reckons she would still be playing on the WTA tour even if she had passed Court’s record at a younger age.
