Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), on Monday, honoured the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army and Patron of the Club, Major General Obinna Onubogu, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the club and to golf in the state.
The reception, which was held at the club premises, Onireke, Ibadan, was attended by members of the IGC board of trustees, former captains, members and friends of the GOC.
Speaking, Captain of the Club, Mr Seyi Alaba, noted the patron’s dedication to fostering the game of golf and promoting sportsmanship, saying the club would continue to cherish his legacy.
Alaba described Onubogu as a true gentleman, a patron of the Ibadan Golf Club, and a distinguished military leader.
“Our Patron, Maj. Gen. OG Onubogu has been a pillar of strength and a shining example of leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship. His dedication to our club and the golfing community has been unwavering, and his presence has elevated our game and our camaraderie.
“As a military leader, he has demonstrated exceptional courage, strategic brilliance, and a deep commitment to serving our nation. His influence has extended beyond the barracks, inspiring us all with his character and vision.
“We are grateful for his patronage, guidance, and friendship.”
Also, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Club, Chief Babajide Olatunde-Agbeja, said the GOC related very well with both the IGC and Tiger Golf Club.
He said they have a fantastic relationship with the GOC, adding that despite his tight schedule, he still created time to play golf.
In his remarks, Onubogu expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the game of golf in the golfing community.
Some of the guests also highlighted the patron’s impact on the club’s programme and described him as a problem solver and solution officer.
