Ibrahimovic defends under-fire Mourinho

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hit out at Jose Mourinho’s critics by insisting he is still the right man to manage Manchester United despite the club’s poor league position.

Mourinho has come under intense pressure during the last few months due to Manchester United’s stuttering form in the Premier League and elimination from the League Cup at the hands of Derby.

Reports suggested Mourinho could have been sacked if United failed to complete a turnaround against Newcastle before the international break.

However, former Manchester United striker Ibrahimovic believes Mourinho should be given time to turn around his side’s current fortunes.

Ibrahimovic, speaking to Sky Sports, said: ‘Some critics I feel personal, some critics are exaggerating, some because of the way he is, some because of jealousy.

“But all this is part of the circle. Mourinho just has to keep being himself, stand up for what he is doing, stand up for what he is.

“He is there because he did it his own way, because he is who he is and don’t change for anybody.

“I am exactly the same, I don’t change for anybody. Everyone out there who thinks they are perfect, they are the biggest problem out there.”
