Mauro Icardi will face disciplinary action after breaking Inter’s code of conduct following comments about the club’s fans in his autobiography.
In a statement released by the club, The Argentinian striker will remain the captain of Inter Milan but will be sanctioned with a fine along with a non-specified punishment.
“Following a meeting this morning between management and Mauro Icardi, F.C. Internazionale announces that the captain will be sanctioned for contravening the club’s internal regulations as signed by every player.”
Icardi, 23, was accused of telling “lies” in a lengthy statement by the Inter ultras. Coupled by this, they cheered as he missed a penalty against Cagliari and booed him off the pitch at the San Siro at the weekend.
Since then, the club has published an apology from Icardi which stated: “the last couple of days have been a sad period in my time with the Nerazzurri. Yet within a family — and I’ve always been taught that Inter is first and foremost one big family — tough times and misunderstandings happen.
“It all stemmed from a page of my book, which was probably written in haste; a page where some of the tone wasn’t appropriate, and I’m really sorry that the Inter fans got caught up in all this.”
Icardi just signed a new five year contract this past month and is expected to stay at the club for the time being despite the recent conjecture surrounding his immediate future.
