Lobi Stars striker, Anthony Okpotu has said he’s in love with Lobi Stars, just as he is prepared for a challenge in Europe if the opportunity comes.
Okpotu, it will be recalled, last weekend in Ibadan, was presented with the third Rashidi Yekini Golden Boot award for emerging the highest goal scorer of the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season with 19 goals.
The Benue State-born player told TribuneOnline that he is committed to serve the pride of Benue.
“Right now, I’m a Lobi Stars player and my mind is fully with the club. I am happy about the personal achievement I had with the team and I want to perform better next season.
“I’m eligible for next CHAN and if the coach gives me a chance, I hope to justify my inclusion in the team. Yes, the dream of every player is to play in Europe and I am no exception. So, if I have an offer abroad, I will look at it critically before I give my consent but right now, I’m just thinking about Lobi Stars and how to play for my country,” Okpotu, who netted three hat-tricks in his 19-goal account at the just-ended NPFL season said.
He stated that he is eagerly awaiting a call up to the Super Eagles with his modest exploits so far.
“I believe my time will come to make the main Super Eagles. Many people expected me to score goals in Ghana and I was worried too when I could not deliver much. Though I eventually scored after three games. It was an experience which I will always recall because playing for the national team is quite different from the club side,” said Okpotu, a member of the Super Eagles who won the silver at the just-ended WAFU Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Lobi Stars Director of ICT, Igoche Mark Agbo said they are in Ijebu-Ode for the pre-season camping as they want to retain the Gold Cup they won last year.
He said they are ready to parade the likes of Okpotu, Mosess Bunde, Cletus Itodo and Solomon kwambe, among others in the tournament.
“We are ready to give our best in the pre-season tournament in Ijebu-Ode as we want to retain trophy they won last year. The tournament is an avenue for the coaching crew to test the new players as well,” he said.
