I’m not after highest goalscorer’s award —Obaje

September 8, 2016

Wikki Tourists striker, Godwin Obaje, admits winning the Nigeria Professional Football League title will be better than winning any individual award.

Obaje has scored a league-leading 18 goals for Wikki this season as they continue their chase for a domestic triumph.

However, the forward’s target remains winning the title rather than breaking Mfon Udoh’s 23-goal record for the most number of goals in a campaign.

“I’m not thinking of equalling or even breaking Mfon Udoh’s record but the success of my team is more paramount to me,” Obaje told Goal.

“I know people expect so much and that is what we want to deliver.

“I am an individual player, but we will have to work as a team to deliver the title.

“That is the most important thing to me; the rest are secondary.

“I am better off winning the league title with Wikki Tourists and failing to win the golden boot or any other award.”

Obaje also questioned the officiating in the Nigerian top flight following their loss to Enyimba.

“It was a great game of soccer displayed by both sides. I wasn’t happy that my team lost.We have to prepare for the next match against Nasarawa United. So we will see what we can get in Makurdi,” he added.
